NRC Charity Award for Endometriosis Foundation!

We congratulate the Endometriose Foundation (ES) with winning the specialist jury prize of the NRC Charity Awards.
The ES had the best advertisement of all participating charities, according to the jury.
With this, the ES wins a double advertising page in NRC Handelsblad and with a value of more than 50,000 euros and an online campaign worth 15,000 euros.
A great opportunity to give endometriosis broad media attention and generate more awareness for the disease and what it means for patients.

SWC Abdomen course: imaging of endometriosis for radiologists (io)

This national course from the Dutch Society of Radiology focused on imaging techniques (transvaginal ultrasound and MRI) in endometriosis. This course for radiologists (io) was given by two members of our endometriosis team, namely Jan Hein van Waesberghe (radiologist) and Velja Mijatovic (gynecologist). The course, interactive based on case studies, was attended by over 250 participants and was held in the De Reehorst congress center in Ede.

EndoLounge theme Food & Lifestyle

On Wednesday evening, April 18, 2018, the Endometriose Foundation and Endometriosecentrum VUmc are organizing an Endo Lounge with the theme Nutrition & Lifestyle.

Because this is a theme that is very prevalent among endometriosis patients, we have decided to organize an entire EndoLounge dedicated to Nutrition & Lifestyle. It will therefore take place in a slightly different setting than you are used to. For this EndoLounge we have invited guest speakers for the first time to talk about the central theme of Nutrition & Lifestyle.

Guest speakers

  • Stephanie van Hulst author of the endometriosis diet book; Tackle endometriosis and menstrual problems!
  • Marijke Glaubitz endometriosis coach at Endokracht. Guides women with endometriosis to get them (again) in control and more energy.

Speakers from the VUmc and Endometriose Stichting

  • Dr. V. Mijatovic gynecologist and head of multidisciplinary endometriosis center VUmc – Latest scientific insights into nutrition in relation to endometriosis.
  • Sandra Truin-Collar host EndoLounge and experience expert –
    The FODMAP diet in PDS and intestinal endometriosis.

There is enough opportunity to ask questions to the speakers after the presentations. These will not be dealt with in plenary but will take place in smaller groups.

For whom
The meeting is intended for women with (presumably) endometriosis and their loved ones.

“A packed room, a lot of interest in the theme and the speakers and a fascinating discussion after the lectures”was one of the many enthusiastic responses we received after the EndoLounge meeting on April 18,

many thanks for the excellent organization by ladies (Sandra, Charlotte & Jessica) from the Endometriosis Foundation. Thanks also to the speakers who have contributed to better highlight the theme of “nutrition and lifestyle in endometriosis”. | All in all, a successful evening with lots of interaction that we look back on with pleasure.

Following the successful Information Evening at the VUmc of March last, a new EndoLounge will be organized on Wednesday evening, November 1 in collaboration with the Endometriose Foundation. During this evening it is possible to ask questions and exchange experiences.

Program EndoLounge:

7 pm – 7.15 pm Welcome & short presentation Endometriosis Foundation
7:15 pm – 8 pm Presentation Dr. ir . Mijatovic (after this presentation there is the possibility to ask questions)
20.00 – 20.15 hrs Pause
20.15 – 21.00 hrs Share experiences in small groups

Dr. Mijatovic, the nurses from the Endometriosis Center and the volunteers from the Endometriosis Foundation will take a seat at the groups to answer any questions. We think it is very important to give everyone who signs up for this EndoLounge a valuable evening.

Seminar prof Huntsman

In collaboration with the NKI-AVL Prof. Huntsman VUmc for a SEMINAR lecture. Prof. Huntsman is a renowned researcher in the field of biomarkers for ovarian carcinoma, among others. He recently published in the New England Journal of Medicine about somatic mutations in deep endometriosis tissue. During this seminar he will further explain his research and what this means for the risk of ovarian cancer in endometriosis patients.

David Huntsman is a Professor in the Departments of Pathology, Laboratory Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and is the Dr. Chew Wei Memorial Professor of Gynecologic Oncology. He is a staff Pathologist at the BC Cancer Agency (BCCA), and a Consulting Pathologist at the Vancouver General Hospital (VGH). Prof Huntsman is currently the Director of the BC multidisciplinary ovarian cancer research team (OvCaRe), Medical Director of the Center for Translational and Applied Genomics (CTAG) at the BCCA, and co-Director of the Genetic Pathology Evaluation Center (GPEC) at the Jack Bell Research Center, VGH.Prof Huntsman research has led to development of predictive and prognostic tissue-based cancer biomarkers for ovarian cancer and a wide variety of other tumor types. His team created a blueprint for subtype specific ovarian cancer control and have bone leaders in the application of novel genomics technologies to ovarian cancer. As collaboration is critical in his field, Prof. Huntsman happily leads and engages in a wide number of multidisciplinary research groups. Most recently he has been working on the creation of broad based personalized medicine initiative for British Columbia.

Launch Online decision aid “retention of fertility in endometriosis” on National Endometriosis Day 2017!

On this annual day of the Endometriosis Foundation Dr. V. Mijatovic the on-line decision aid during his lecture in the plenary room of Corpus in Oestgeest. The link to the online decision aid will soon be available on the website of the Endometriosis Foundation.

This online decision aid has been developed in collaboration with the Endometriosis Foundation and is intended to support endometriosis patients who have questions about preserving fertility in the conversation with their treating physician.
